Figure out the PD Quick Charging protocol in one minute
You may be familiar with Qualcomm‘s QC fast charging. As for the USB-PD (full name "USB Power Delivery") fast charging protocol, you may feel strange. Today, let‘s learn about the USB-PD fast charging protocol.
What is USB-PD fast charging?
USB-PD is a fast charging specification formulated by USB-IF organization. It is one of the mainstream fast charging protocols at present. The USB-PD fast charging protocol is output through the Type-C interface, but it cannot be said that the Type-C interface must support the USB-PD fast charging protocol. Theoretically, the charging power can reach 100W with PD protocol.
PD protocol has obvious advantages in fast charging
USB-PD fast charging protocol can increase the transmission of power through USB cable and connector, expand the power supply capacity of cable bus in USB applications, so as to improve the charging voltage or current, and can freely change the transmission direction of power.
The Type-C interface supports up to 15W (5V/3A) by default, but after implementing the USB-PD protocol, it can support up to 100W (20V/5A) of output power. So now many devices with practical Type-C interface will support USB-PD protocol.

Relationship with other charging protocols
USB-PD protocol and other manufacturers‘ fast charging protocols are not the same relationship. In the PPS (fast charging technical specification) released by USB-IF, the USB-PD 3.0 protocol has included Qualcomm QC 3.0 and 4.0, Huawei SCP and FCP, MTK pe3.0 and pe2.0, and OPPO VOOC.
We can see from the above that the USB-PD protocol is powerful, which is also the reason why mobile phones and notebooks have rapidly popularized the Type-C interface and supported USB-PD fast charging in recent years.

Other charging protocols
QC / PE / VOOC / FCP , SCP / FlashCharge / MI ChargeTurbo
●QC protocol
Qualcomm QC fast charging protocol is a fast charging technology developed by Qualcomm, a well-known chip company, for equipping snapdragon processors. Its full name is quick charge. As the leading brother of mobile phone chips, Qualcomm has long integrated the fast charging protocol in its chip manufacturers, but many mobile phones that are not Qualcomm processors can also support QC fast charging protocol, because PD fast charging protocol is compatible with QC protocol.
●PE protocol
PE protocol is launched by MediaTek and its full name is Pump Express. Its feature is that it allows the charger to determine the initial voltage required for charging according to the current. Although they are both chip manufacturers, the PE protocol has little mobile phone support except Meizu. It is much harder to find a suitable charger than Qualcomm.
The above are all public protocols, which have been implemented in recent years. Many mobile phone manufacturers have launched their own private agreements.
●VOOC Flash Charge
VOOC flash charging is a fast charging technology independently developed by OPPO. It is the first mass-produced commercial fast charging scheme in the world. Compared with other fast charging schemes, the technical threshold for realizing VOOC flash charging is higher. VOOC flash charging requires customized adapters and batteries. It adopts the scheme of low voltage and high current. Compared with other schemes, the charging power is higher, and the electricity conversion rate reaches 95%.
●SCP/FCP Flash Charge
The full name of SCP is Super Charge Protocol, and the full name of FCP is Fast Charge Protocol. Both of them are Huawei‘s own private protocols with a maximum power of 60W.
●MI ChargeTurbo Flash Charge
Mi Chargeturbo Fflash Charging technology is introduced by Xiaomi for MI series mobile phones, which is suitable for Xiaomi and Hongmi mobile phones. Like other private protocols, the original charger and data cable are also required to achieve the best fast charging effect.
